NEW BEDFORD, MA- New Bedford marked the completion of a roadway extension project today.
The new Flaherty drive extension in the New Bedford Business Park was dedicated to the late Bill Flaherty.
Flaherty, a former chairman of the greater New Bedford Industrial Foundation, died of cancer in 2003.
The $2 million dollar road extension leads to 45–acres of land.
Mayor Jon Mitchell says this 800–foot extension will now lead to future businesses in the park.
"It's an example of how every level of government can come together, both financially and programmatically to make something good to create opportunities for the private sector to do what the private sector does better than government, and that is to create economic opportunity," said Mitchell.
The project was funded through state and federal grant money.
