Providence schools are investigating after a student at Asa Messer Elementary School was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who the school released her to without authorization.

The school released the girl to the man 46-year-old Bo Kang, because he had been seen around the school and family on past occassions. However, Kang was not on the list of people authorized to take the girl out of school.

After taking the girl from school Kang allegedly sexually assaulted her. He was charged in Providence District Court last week.

School officials say the man told school staff that the child had an appointment. Superintendent Dr. Susan Lusi says appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the staff member.
