The 18-year-old Umass-Dartmouth student who is charged in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Middleboro man, is being held on $10,000 cash bail.

Eric Megna was also ordered not to drive if he posts bail. His next scheduled court appearance is January 8th.

Police say he hit 58–year old Michael Dutra in October then took off to New Hampshire.

He told state police in New Hampshire that he had hit a deer. Megna even sent his mother a photo of a dead deer which she showed to investigators.

Police say the photo was an online photo and there were no signs of deer fur on his damaged jeep.

Megna is being charged with one count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash causing death.
