A dog left for dead in a New Bedford neighborhood and now the search is on for the person who did it. The 5–year–old German Shepard was dumped near a beach in the south end this week.

His collar was clasped so tightly around his neck, it was embedded into his skin and he needed surgery to remove it.

Animal control officials say it's one of the worst cases of animal abuse they've seen. They're now offering a 1–thousand dollar reward for any information.

Police are searching for a blond woman who was riving an older Toyota Corolla.

The dog will be up for adoption at Forever Paws in Fall River in the coming days.
