WARWICK, RI- Local soldiers will soon be getting a taste of home. ‘Operation Holiday Cheer' kicked off this weekend.
Volunteers will spend this Sunday packing up items donated by the public.
The care packages will then be shipped off to soldiers overseas just in time for the holidays.
For those who have received a package in the past, it means more than many realized.
Stephen Cadoret has been deployed during holidays. He said, "It really makes you feel good when you get a care package and you're able to open it up and it's like celebrating Christmas over there. It's not the same as being home but it's the best that you can make of it."
350 packages will be shipped out; one for every Rhode Islander, currently serving in the military overseas.
