Police investigate homicide, man shot then struck by train

Police are investigating a homicide that happened late Monday night in Taunton.

Police received a call around 11:40 p.m. Monday night regarding a man being struck by a CSX transportation train in the area behind 37 Cushman Street. They identified the victim as Edwin Rivera Jr., 24, of Taunton, and an autopsy concluded that he died as a result of gunshot wounds.

One man has been arrested in connection to the homicide. Flavio Daveiga, 21, of 15 Newcombe Place, was arrested today, and charged with accessory to murder before the fact and the obstruction of justice portion of the witness intimidation statute.

He was arraigned in Taunton District Court and ordered held on $2 million cash bail.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
