Durfee High School in Fall River unveiled a new monument honoring a special former Hilltopper.

Friends and family of the late Jason Cummings, coach and co-founder of the Fall River Football Challenge, unveiled the monument at the Thanksgiving game vs. New Bedford High School Thursday morning.

The monument reads, "One Heartbeat, One Team" and "Respectful-Responsible-Readiness".

Cummings was a Durfee High graduate and former football player. He went on to play at Westfield State University before returning to his home city. Cummings went back to Durfee High to share his devotion and love of the game with fellow Hilltoppers.

The Fall River Football Challenge is a football camp and development program for student-athletes that Cummings founded with friend Cris Borges in 2010. Cummings was also a Sergeant with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections at Bridgewater State Hospital.

The monument serves as a reminder of his leadership and encouragement and a place where all athletes can draw from his message.
