Organizers of Occupy Providence chanted outside Wal–Mart today, demanding better wages for its employees.

The group of protestors also urged people to not shop at Wal–Mart, but spend their money at locally–owned businesses.

Occupy Providence protestor, Robert Malin said, "We support a solidarity economy; an economy which shops local and supports our local businesses which keep the money in the community, not sent out to Arkansas or wherever the Waltons are."

Organizers say if Wal–Mart raised its minimum wage to 15 dollars an hour, it would prevent workers from needing government assistance programs.
