Pyrotechnic smell interrupts PPAC

PROVIDENCE, RI- The Phantom of the Opera was interrupted by a strange smell during last night's show at PPAC.

Officials say there was no fire or smoke, but the smell did startle patrons sitting in the balcony.

The fire department was called in to investigate, but found no issues. The show later resumed.

Officials say it could have been pyro–technics in the show that caused that strange smell.

"Obviously, the pyro that went off released a smell. I don't have the answer of why, but the company will drill down and see and you know, test some pyros today because we don't have a matinee today, so that it doesn't occur again, "said PPAC President & CEO, Lynn Singleton.

Just before the show, an unrelated technical issue caused a one–hour delay. PPAC says those unhappy with their experience can call the box office.

Tonight's show is still set for 8 PM.
