CRANSTON - For many, the sound of hair clippers is one heard every few weeks. But for men struggling with homelessness...it's barely on their minds.
"I have to get out of homelessness. I've been homeless for
about a year now. It was a year Saturday. So haircuts are probably the last
thing on the list. Especially expense–wise," said Jarad Walton, a resident of the Harrington House shelter.
So to give that experience to those, who may not be able to
get it themselves the men of the Details Barber Shop in Cranston donated their services to the men of
the Harrington Hall shelter.
"Everybody feels new when you get a fresh haircut. It's like
hitting a refresh button," said Manny "Fresh" Garcia, owner of Details.
"It feels good! I got to look for jobs so I got to look good
first.," said Walton.
Details has donated services a handful of times in the
past, but this is the first time the entire staff has come to Harrington Hall.
"It's the only all–men's homeless shelter... you know a lot
of men kind of get discriminated when they are less fortunate so, I felt like,
us as barbers... we gave the men a break," said Garcia.
Proving that sometimes... It's the little details that make a big difference.
The Details barber shop also held a special collection drive
all month long where they took in donations, everything from hats and gloves to
toiletries, and brought them all here today for everyone to enjoy.
They'll be continuing their collection at the shop all month long.
To drop off donations bring them to 891 Dyer Ave. in Cranston.
