SMITHFIELD, RI- Inside Apple Valley Hobbies, orange sale stickers cover every item.
Planes, trains, and automobiles fill the small store and on some days, owner, John Elliott can count on his hand just how many customers come inside.
Electrical trains are one of the hottest items sold inside the store but this, along with other reasons are not enough to keep it open.
Elliot said, "I don't like what I see in the industry, in the hobby business. The prices are too high. I think the quality is shoddy."
The 67–year-old has been trying to sell the store for six years. He finally decided to give it up.
The store has been in operation since the 1940's.
Customers, who still find these crafts interesting aren't happy about the store closing.
"It's definitely not as popular as it used to be," said, Joseph Andade.
Elliott is expected to retire once the store closes in January.
