Local communities are reminding people to clean the snow off their sidewalks.

Many cities and towns including Pawtucket, Providence, North Providence, Warwick, Fall River and New Bedford have ordinances in place.

"We're gonna be enforcing it heavily because public safety is number one priority," said Shaun Logue, Director Pawtucket Zoning & Code Enforcement.

In Pawtucket homeowners and business owners have 12 hours to clean off their sidewalks.

"The first offense is $25, the second offense is $50 and the third offense is $100," said Logue.

He says they target areas near schools and senior housing.

"It just makes traveling for them very difficult," said Mary Lou Moran, Director Pawtucket Senior Center.

"I experienced this morning, there is ice under the snow I was slipping around," said Tom MaGill. Pawtucket.

For people who can't shovel the city has a program to help.  For more information call Roberge at 401-728-0500, ext. 241, or by email at broberge@pawtucketri.com .
