Save somebody's life, don't drink and drive! That's the message Rhode Island law enforcement is trying to get out this holiday season. The State police are participating in two national campaigns: Drive sober or get pulled over and the holiday lifesaver weekend.
On Thursday police created a "Wet lab" where volunteers were given alcohol and then tested. Police wanted to demonstrate just how dangerous is it to get behind the wheel while drunk even if you stopped drinking hours before.
State police will be adding extra patrols on the streets until after the New Year.
Another concern this holiday season is texting. Using a cell phone while driving, delays your reaction time as much as having a .08 blood alcohol level.
ABC 6 and courtesy Auto Group have joined forces to get the word out about "No texts, No wrecks." You can take the pledge. Each month, one person who likes us on our "No text No wrecks" Facebook page will be awarded gift certificates to area attractions!
