Two Rhode Island residents announced today that they have filed a nationwide class action lawsuit against Target relating to Target's massive data breach.

William B. Knowles and Patricia A. Doyle, who filed their lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island, allege that Target breached its duties to safeguard the confidential financial and personal information of nearly 40 million members of the proposed nationwide class.

Their Rhode Island attorney, Peter N. Wasylyk, said "I am hopeful that the classaction lawsuit will provide relief to the millions of consumers affected by one of the largest data breaches in US history."

Target is dealing with severe backlash after finding out its computers had been hacked, allowing customer's financial and personal information to be taken over about a month long span.
