NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) The federal government has awarded $627,000 to a Massachusetts construction company to begin repairs on the Point Judith Harbor jetty in Rhode Island.

The project includes restoring the southern portion of the east jetty at Point Judith Harbor, which was damaged by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

The work will require significant quantities of new stones, and will involve both land-based and maritime construction.

The contract for the work has been awarded to Atlantic Support Installations of Hopedale, Mass. The work is expected to begin in February and will take about three months.

The contract was announced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
