FAIRHAVEN - The Coast Guard has suspended the search for missing 21 year old Dana Dourdeville of Marion. He was not found today.

The Brown University student was last seen leaving his home on Tuesday afternoon to go duck hunting. He brought along a kayak.

When he didn't return home his mother went looking for him and found his car parked at West Island town beach in Fairhaven, Mass.

The Fairhaven Police Department is currently working with assistance from the Fairhaven Fire Department, the Fairhaven Harbormaster, the Massachusetts State Police Air Branch, the New Bedford Police Marine Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard.  At this point, the scope of the search includes the east side of West Island, the Little Bay area as well as the surrounding conservation land.

Authorities searched both land and water.

Last night the Coast Guard located the Kayak 3 miles offshore. There was no evidence that the kayak had tipped over in the water.

Friends helped the search today, hanging on to positive thoughts about Dourdeville.

"[He is] very outdoorsy, very, very athletic, brilliant, very, very smart. We always watch movies together we're always hanging out together, and we were planning on getting together pretty soon," said Seth Hiller, who has known Dourdeville for many years.

He's described as a thin white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with brown hair.  He was reported to have been wearing brown sweat pants and a red life jacket.

Authorities will resume a limited search in the morning.
