Below freezing temperatures are causing pipe problems around Rhode Island.
"Started with no heat, a lot of freeze ups and flooding," said Neal Lund, F.G. Lees & Son Plumbing and Heating.
It's keeping plumbers like Lund busy. He has been working non-stop and says it doesn't take long for the pipes to freeze, burst and cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
"That water can fill your basement up six to ten inches. In a couple of hours it will flood the entire house," said Lund.
He says pipes freeze because of failed heating systems and exposure to cold air. The easiest things to do to prevent problems are turn up the heat and let your faucets drip.
"Pipes that have moving water won't freeze and if the warm water is trickling through the pipe it will actually warm the pipe for the night," said Lund.
