Providence fire displaces 16 people

A fire broke out just after 5pm Friday evening on New York Ave in Providence.

Officials say when they arrived on scene flames were shooting from the third floor apartment and quickly spread to the attic which is considered a fourth floor apartment.

All occupants inside the homes were evacuated. The Red Cross is now assisting in 16- people in total.

Two firefighters were injured while putting out the flames and were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

One of the firefighters hurt his back while the other suffered burns to his hand and arm. Both are expected to be okay.

The fire is under investigation.
