Cranston Mayor Allan Fung is recounting a tough part of his past.

Fung said was behind the wheel in a fatal crash when he was 18-years-old.

Fung was heading home from college in New Haven to Cranston along a stretch of 95, when he dosed off and struck a man attempting to change his tire on the side of the highway.

The man was later identified as 41-year-old James Skipper Jr. of Pawtucket.

Fung was arrested and charged with driving to endanger, death resulting.

His case went to a grand jury which decided not to indict him.

Fung said he chose to tell the story now because of his recent decision to run for governor.
