Pawtucket Police have arrested a woman for abandoning her dog in a dumpster on December 19.

32-year-old Jennifer McRae is being charged with abandonment of animals, unnecessary cruelty of animals, and obstructing an officer in execution of duty.

Police say that McRae called the department stating she had information regarding the individual that abandoned the dog. McRae stated she had adopted the dog but when found out her property owner would not allow pets in the building she gave the dog to a friend by the name of Crystal Miller.

McRae provided police with a phone number for miller and several text messages between Miller and McRae.

Upon further investigation police were unable to located an individual by the name of Crystal Miller and when they traced the phone number it was registered to McRae.

Police say McCrae created the identity of Crystal Miller in order to place blame for the abandonment of the dog.

The dog was discovered after a person walking by the dumpster near 95 Harrison Street heard the dog crying and alerted police. The dog was found in a crate inside the dumpster.
