Rehoboth Police have arrested a man for driving under the influence for the eighth time.

46-year-old David Frates of Easton Mass., was pulled over on Route 44 near Anawan Street by Rehoboth police around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. When police approached his vehicle they noticed the operator hold a plastic cup with liquid and observed him to be intoxicated.

Frates had had his license suspended as a result of his past offenses. After the fourth operating under the influence charge in Massachusetts driving with a suspended or revoked license carries a one year minimum jail sentence said police.

Frates was charged with operating under the influence eighth offense, driving without a license, and having an open container in the vehicle. Frates appeared in District Court in Taunton on Wednesday and was ordered held without bail until a dangerousness hearing scheduled for January 22.

He has already served over two year behind bars for past OUI offenses.
