A "selective search" Amber Alert remains in effect for 6-year-old Daniel Britt of Woonsocket who was taken by his mother. Police say the alert is focused on three states: Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Washington. Andria Britt has extended family in Washington and police believe she may be traveling there.
Investigators say both Daniel and Andria may be in danger, based on Andria's mental health. Authorities would not elaborate on any conditions the boys mother may have, but in an interview with Sean Britt, Daniel's father, he revealed that his ex-wife has been treated at Butler Hospital.
A second car had been added to the Amber Alert Thursday morning, but was removed by afternoon. Police had been looking for a gray Chevrolet Astro van, registered to the boy's maternal grandfather. Authorities say he is not a suspect, and that they are talking with him. They are also speaking with relatives in Washington to see if they have any information that will lead them to bringing the boy home safely.
Daniel has not been seen for two weeks. The boy was reported missing by his father on January 8th when Daniel was scheduled to be returned to the father and Andria never showed up for their scheduled custody hearing.
State Police issued the alert Wednesday. A family Court Judge has decreed that there is an immediate risk of harm to the child after medical records regarding Andria Britt was revealed.
Police say Andria may have left the state with Daniel. Andria and Daniel are believed to be traveling in a 2004 Red Ford Focus with the license plate 942649.
