Cranston Mayor Allan Fung is responding to calls for him to suspend his gubernatorial campaign.
Democratic Chairman, Michael Sepe, says Fung should not campaign while the police union fights allegations that officers handed out parking tickets in the wards of two city councilors who voted against a proposed police labor contract.
Fung has already placed Cranston's police chief on paid leave while the state police investigate.
"Absolutely ridiculous. Ridiculous. And
it's nothing but pure politics that are at play right now," said Fung.
Fung says one of his top priorities as Mayor is making sure residents of Cranston have confidence in their government. He adds the state police investigation should have no bearing on his run for governor.
