The primary race which will likely determine who will replace Lisa Baldelli–Hunt in the Rhode Island house was a close one.

Woonsocket firefighter and President of the local firefighters union Michael Morin won the democratic primary with 344–votes edging out former Woonsocket school committee member Douglas brown who received 307- votes.

The third candidate in the race physical therapist Mark Chenot received 7–votes.

There were 52–absentee and emergency ballots that still have to be counted.

There will still be a special election held next month but because there is no republican mounting a challenge to the democrat's only write in candidates can mount a challenge to Michael Morin in the upcoming special election which will be held on February 25th.

Michael Morin: 344 Votes

Douglas Brown: 307 Votes

Mark Chenot: 7 Votes

Other:  52 Votes
