Warwick residents got their first chance to let the full City Council know how they feel about Council President Donna Travis being behind on paying her 2013 taxes.

Last Friday, ABC6 News obtained public records that show Travis has not paid her property or car taxes for 2013.

Residents Rob Cote and Richard Corrente used their public comment time to speak on the issue.

"I just tried to show the immense hypocrisy of that ... 'do as I say, but not as I do' attitude," said Corrente.

"How does someone that's delinquent on their taxes get a monthly check from the city for an excess of $600 for being a City Councilor," said Cote.

Council President Travis did remind the speakers that the public comment period was not a time for personal attacks.

The Council President would not go on camera with ABC6, but did say she is still working on paying her taxes.

During a phone interview last Friday Travis said quote:

"I'll try to get it all caught up at the end, of you know, before July. I've got some medical problems with my husband and fell behind."

Neither Travis nor any of the other councilors commented on the issue during Wednesday's meeting.
