59-year-old Sharon Gerlach of Middletown died after being struck by a vehicle in Newport while crossing the street.

The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. on Bellevue Avenue in front of the Tennis Hall of Fame. The operator of the vehicle was a 64-year-old man from Exeter. He was cited for right of way in a cross walk but has not been criminally charged.

The accident occurred just outside Portobello, a jewelry store that Gerlach co-owned with her sister.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

This accident happened less than a week after a wheelchair bound man was struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk. 56-year-old Robert Silvia died from his injuries on Wednesday night.

The driver in that accident has been identified as 31-year-old Matthew Mccolgan. He has not been criminally charged.
