The suspect in Friday's fatal shooting in Providence was ordered held without bail on Monday morning in Providence District Court.
Saul Rivera, 20, is charged with attacking his ex-girlfriend and then shooting a man who tried to help her get away.
Police say Rivera chocked his ex-girlfriend in the early morning hours. She was able to escape and was picked up by a car. Rivera followed the car to a gas station at the intersections of Chalkstone and River Avenues where he allegedly shot the driver, Derreck Almanzar, 24 of Providence.
Almanzar was transported by private vehicle to Roger Williams Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head. He was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rivera is charged with murder and felony domestic assault.
This marks the cities second homicide of the year.
