Local lawmakers are hoping to make the Charles M. Braga Jr. Bridge in Fall River a beacon of light for the city.
In the $12 billion dollar transportation bill approved by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, a half a million dollars has been earmarked for planning, design, and permitting of lights on the Braga Bridge.
"This could be a huge economic development tourism , and quality of life piece to the puzzle for this area," said State Rep. Carole Fiola (D, Fall River) who has been advocating for the funds.
The bill must now be approved by the Massachusetts Senate.
The Braga Bridge connects Somerset and Fall River and is one of Masschussett's longest bridges. Fiola said she hopes that the Braga Bridge could some day be like Boston's Zakim Bridge; an icon for the city.
