Dartmouth standoff end peacefully after man threatens local university

A daylong standoff in Dartmouth came to a peaceful end.

A Dartmouth neighborhood was on lock down and the Roger Williams University Campus had a stepped up police presence after a former student at the law school sent alarming emails to faculty and administrators.

36-year-old Kevin Pacheco barricaded himself inside his home on Richards Street for more than eight hours on Tuesday. He came out only after police cut the power to the home around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police say Pacheco had access to firearms. A reverse 911 call alerted the neighborhood to stay inside thier basements during the incident.

Roger Williams University stepped up police presence on campus at the school on Tuesday.

Pacheco will face charges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts after he undergoes a mental health evaluations.
