A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of SNE through Wednesday afternoon. A mixed bag of snow/sleet/freezing rain and rain will make for hazardous travel across the region.
The most intense part of the storm will occur Wednesday morning, with heavy snow possibly accumulating at 1 to 2 inches per hour for several hours. The real question is when will the snow turn to sleet/rain. It looks like that will happen between 9 and 10am in Providence, sooner to the south and later to the north/west. The timing of that changeover is what will determine whether Providence gets 4 inches or 8 inches of total snowfall. By the afternoon most areas will be experiencing a light wintry mix, with the precipitation changing back to snow late in the day, with another 1 to 2 additional inches of snow possible by late evening. The storm heads out of the region late Wednesday evening, with overnight lows near 20°.
Expect dry/cold weather for Thursday through Saturday, with highs near 30° and lows in the teens.
There is a chance of another snowstorm late this upcoming weekend into Monday.
