Just in time for Valentine season, a Rhode Island couple won the chance to design jewelry, all for a good cause.
Lisa and Ed Medeiros won an auction sponsored by jewelry maker Alex and Ani, and it's "Charity by Design" campaign.
The idea was to come up with heart–shaped design, that would be fun as a romantic gift, but would also raise money to fight heart disease in adults and kids.
Ed Medeiros said, "I said that's what we are going to do – make a whole heart! So instead of having a silhouette, which a lot of them are silhouettes, I wanted the whole heart."
Lisa Medeiros said, "There's a lot of children affected by heart disease, too, with congenital heart defects, so once Ed and I learned more about the diseases and how far–reaching it was, we really wanted to get involved.".
20 percent of all sales from the charm will now go to the American Heart Association.
In the past year Alex and Ani has already raised more than $800,000 dollars for heart related causes.
