Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the SpringfieldFalcons 3-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Mike Moore, Tyler Randell and AlexanderKhokhlachev each scored for the P-Bruins, while Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves in the victory.
The P-Bruins opened the scoring at the 9:56 mark for the first period. Moore took a hard wrist shot from the rightface-off circle and the puck sailed past Springfield goaltender Jeremy Smith for his third goal of theseason. Chris Casto and AnthonyCamara had the assists. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the firstintermission.
Providence carried the momentum into the second period with strong offensiveopportunities, but it was the Falcons scoring at the 10:52 mark to tie the gameat one when Alex Aleardi picked up aloose puck in front of Svedberg and slid it past the goal line for his seventhgoal this season. Tim Miller and Tim Erixon recorded the assists. The P-Bruins regained the lead at the 16:47mark when Randell scored his second goal this season. Rob Flick and Tommy Crossgrabbed the helpers as the P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
In the third period, the P-Bruins added an insurance goal at the 14:51 mark whenKhokhlachev had a short breakaway chance. The puck flipped over Smith and into the netfor Khokhlachev's 12th. Camara had the lone assist as the P-Bruins wentonto the 3-1 victory.
Svedberg stopped 26 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Smith made 17 saves forthe Falcons. The P-Bruins were 0-for-6on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return to action at the Dunkin'Donuts CenterFriday at 7:05pm against the St. John's IceCaps.
