A Providence lawyer charged with hosting an underage drinking party for her 16-year-old daughter is free on personal recognizance.

Jayne Donegan pleaded not guilty during her arraignment at Kent County Courthouse today.

Prosecutors said Donegan knew about the party going on inside her Wilber Way home in North Kingstown.

Police said nearly 40 cars were lining the street and when they went to inspect the home, Donegan slammed the door on them.

Inside the home, police found booze and marijuana.

Donegan's lawyers denied the claims, saying she was the one assaulted when she opened the door.

"She was then shoved twice by officers in the foyer so we're going to ask state police to take an independent view of this and do an independent investigation," said William Devereaux, Donegan's Attorney.

A pretrial hearing is set for Feb. 25th.
