The financially troubled Central Coventry Fire District has been ordered to shut down.

The order from a judge came down Wednesday afternoon. The bankrupt fire department has until May 16th to liquidate it's assets to pay off it's debts.

The department has been in receivership since October of 2012.

"Yes, you can expect there will be service to your home or even intersection or roadway that is in that district.  There will be service until May 16th," said State Rep. Lisa Tomasso.

"There is a lot to go between then and now and we just have to work hard to make sure folks are safe, but at an affordable cost," said State Rep. Patricia Morgan.

There is no plan for services after May 16th.  A judge notified the town and state that they'll have to come up with a plan to provide fire coverage.
