Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings have been issued for all of Southern New England beginning 7AM Thursday morning and lasting through Thursday night, and there is a Wind Advisory for Eastern and SE Coastal MA and also for Newport county, RI. This Wind Advisory is from late Thursday morning into Thursday evening.
Expect the snow to begin in Providence by 5AM Thursday morning, with a coating to an inch of snow likely by 7AM. Snow and sleet will be heavy at times during the morning, with NE winds gusting up to 40 mph (up to 50 mph for much of coastal RI and SE MA). The snow/sleet could accumulate a few inches by noon, by which time rising temperatures will cause the precipitation to change to rain, which should last for much of the afternoon. During that time, snow/sleet could still accumulate to the north/west of Providence, where greater than 6" of snow is possible by Thursday evening.
Expect rain/wind Thursday night, with the chance of a changeover back to snow as the storm heads into the Gulf of Maine late Thursday night, with gusty NW winds into Friday morning.
Partly sunny and blustery Friday afternoon with highs near 40. Chance of snow showers Saturday, coastal areas could see an inch or two, then cold and dry Sunday.
