A man has been hospitalized after being shot by a Providence Police Officer during an incident around 11 p.m. on Monday.

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance on Clarence Street when the incident happened. It is unclear what took place prior to the shooting, however, Police say ultimately Patrolman Ryan Moroney fired a shot at 23-year-old Darri Garcia. The incident happened outside the home on the sidewalk.

Garcia was transported to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for his injuries which were expected to be non-life threatening.

Officer Moroney was not injured during the incident. Moroney is a 9-year veteran of the Providence Police Department. He has been placed on paid administrative leave while the department investigates the circumstances surrounding the incident. Rhode Island State Police and the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office are also investigating the matter because a police officer was involved.

Charges against Garcia are currently pending.
