Two North Attleboro businesses were evacuated late Tuesday morning. The roof they share partially collapsed under the weight of all the snow.

The building is made up of two businesses including a jeweler and a doctors office which is under construction. Crews heard a loud cracking noise coming from the ceiling and ran out of the building. No one was hurt.

The roof is sagging and is being called a partial collapse. Fire officials say heavy snow is a factor.

"You have to weigh the options.  Is it safer to go up and try and get the snow off your roof or is that more dangerous? You never know. You just hope the integrity of the building supports the snow load. In this particular case it doesn't look like it's done it," said Chief Ted Joubert of the North Attleboro Fire Department.

The utilities have been shut off and a building inspector is now trying to figure out how to prevent a complete collapse before more snow brings it down.

Snow began falling in North Attleboro shortly before noon Tuesday.
