WEST WARWICK, RI- After the Station Nightclub fire on February 20th, 2003, the foundation was formed and began raising money to turn the makeshift memorial into a permanent fixture.

Even after acquiring the land in 2012, they've raised nearly $200,000, but nowhere near the estimated $2 million.

Last week, the foundation hired Dan Barry, owner of a Narragansett–based fundraising company to see how much the foundation can raise, and how long it will take.

"When something like this starts, everybody's gung ho. You, know and the next year, everybody's ho, and then the next year everybody's gone," said Dave Kane.

Kane's son, Nicholas is the youngest victim. He says this study is needed to know if the memorial can be economically maintained.

Barry has over 30–years of experience. During which he says he raised nearly $400 million dollars throughout the country.

He's worked with URI, Animal Rescue League of Rhode Island, and a civil war museum in West Virginia.

"Hearing a little bit of feedback, people aren't too thrilled that we spent money to hire a professional fundraiser but the reality is, they know the right people," said foundation president, Gina Russo.
