"Louie's Tavern" on Douglas Avenue in Providence is now out of business.

Last call came after hundreds of citations, many for underage drinking.

"You know if you are having underage drinking, and this, that, and the other going on. You know what I'm saying, that's not really nice. You know?" said Zealous Washington.

No one was at the business, after the city revoked the license on Thursday.

But neighbors tell us vandalism, littering and noise were constant problems.

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark "Now the building owner is hoping the city will eventually let someone else take over the liquor license for Louie's and operate it responsibly. But so far the city is saying no."

For decades, Louie's has been a popular watering hole for students at nearby Providence College.

Neighbor and pizza delivery man Leo Taveras, hung out at Louie's.

"I liked the place, because it was just a regular place, where it was really cheap to drink, something quick!" said Leo Taveras, a former Louie's customer.

Taveras, says the city did not treat Louie's owner fairly.

"It was not really his fault, for why he got shut down," said Leo Taveras.

Q: You mean having underage drinking in there?

"It's not his fault because it's the students that had really good fake IDs," Taveras added.

Louie's is the oldest community bar in Providence, the license dating back to 1912.
