Students from three Rhode Island high schools put on their chef hats to compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money.
7 teams from The Exeter Job Core Academy, Chariho Career and Technical Center, and William M. Davies Career and Technical High School faced off Thursday at the Convention Center. All of them were graded by well-known local chefs on their cooking and management skills.
"They only have 60 minutes and they only have two butane burners to work with, so they don't have access to the full kitchen, they really are just limited to a 10 by 10 foot space, so they really have to pull off a fantastic menu," says Heather Singleton, one of the event organizers.
First, second, and third place awards were given out to both culinary and management teams. They shared a total of $325,000 in scholarship money.
