Prom season is almost here and that means high school girls are busy searching for the perfect dress. Last week what was supposed to be a fun shopping experience turned into an emotional roller coaster for one Massachusetts teen.

The girl left a South Shore shop in tears when she couldn't find a gown that fit her. She wear's a size 22. The store, Designer Diva, is a consignment shop which sells gently used or new clothes brought in by individuals. The owner was so upset by what happened she posted a message to the teen on FaceBook.

To the beautiful girl that was in my store today looking for a size 22 dress…I  didn't get your name before you left :( but I will not forget your face :) I'm sorry you were sad… but don't be. I will find you your dream dress!!!

The shop's owner also put out a call to other store owners and the public to help the girl find the dress of her dreams. Donna Holland, owner of Party Dress Express in Fall River, responded.

"The minute we heard this story we were on board," said Holland.

Holland and her staff spent Friday morning combing though the racks pulling plus sized gowns to send to Designer Diva.

"I know, as a plus sized girl myself, how hard it is," said Allisa Paiva, a manager at the store. "It was really heartbreaking to hear she left the store crying. It's so frustrating."

Holland says it is her goal to make sure all women have the same shopping experience no matter their size.

"I tell you some of these girls- they rock in these dresses because they've got the curves- I mean they can outshine any size 6 or 8 when you put them in the right dress," said Holland

Party Dress Express is able to stock new dresses of all sizes.

"[The women] don't want to be shown a small dress and you say ‘Oh, you can order this' or [to be] stuffed into a small dress and told ‘Oh, you can order this,'" said Holland.

If the teen chooses one of the Fall River dress shops' gowns it will be hers to keep. The dresses are valued at between $300 and $600.

"I hope it boosts her confidence that she know there are stores out there and places she can go to find beautiful, trendy dresses," said Paiva.

Other people have also volunteered services including hair styling, flowers and photos for prom.

The teen, who's name is not being named to protect her privacy, has been in touch with the consignment store and will return soon to select a dress.
