A 43-year-old professor at Rhode Island College was killed while walking in Syracuse Friday afternoon.

Jennifer Cook, an associate English professor from Providence, was walking with her mother when an 86-year-old man in a pickup truck veered off the road and hit them.

Cook was sent to the hospital and later died from her injuries. Cook's mother, 72-year-old Barbara Cook, is in critical condition at an upstate New York hospital.

Police are still investigating the crash but have not issued any tickets as of yet.
