Providence is getting rave reviews for its quality of life in an online ranking of best downtowns in the country.

Rhode Island's Capital City was ranked the second best downtown in America by Livability.com, an online publication that surveys metro areas on various different social issues. The survey also factors in population growth, ratio of residents to jobs, income growth, and affordability of housing.

Providence was recognized for being a city that fosters creativity, inclusion, and innovation and offers plenty of diverse local architecture, art, lifestyles and things to do. Also recognized was Providence's "significant investment downtown with new construction, major renovations and businesses moving in."

"This recognition reaffirms that Providence is among the very best nationwide for quality of life and opportunity," said Mayor Angel Taveras. "Rhode Island's Capital City has enormous assets and an incredible quality of life that attracts residents and visitors and encourages them to stay."

According to the publication, top-performing downtowns such as Providence "must maintain a high level of energy and give all residents in a city a reason to come on down".

Providence ranked second only to Fort Worth, Texas, and was the only New England city to make the list.
