PROVIDENCE, RI- In a statement released Saturday, Fox says he's stepping down as Speaker, but will serve out the remainder of his term.

"Because of the respect I have for all members of the House of Representatives, I am resigning as Speaker. The process of governing must continue and the transition of leadership must be conducted in an orderly manner," said Fox.

He mentioned he wants to focus on his family and the investigation.

Earlier today, Fox dodged questions about why he's being investigated.

After leaving his East Side home late Saturday morning, House Speaker Gordon Fox advised reporters not to wait outside his home if looking for answers.

"I wouldn't waste your time cause when it's appropriate, under the circumstances, I'll talk to everybody," said Fox.

Until that day comes, it's only speculated this investigation has something to do with Fox's involvement in the failed 38 Studio's deal, income he made from the Providence Economic Development partnership, or a campaign ethics complaint.

Federal agents raided Fox's home and state office Friday, carrying out boxes of documents.

So far, some Rhode Island democratic state reps have met in a closed door meeting to discuss the investigation.

Gordon Fox has not been charged with any crime or accused of any wrong–doing at this point.

He will not seek re-election in November, but will serve out his term until January, 2015.
