Nearly a million and a half dollars worth of food left Ocean State JoblLot headquarters in Quonset on Tuesday, on it's way to area food banks.

Pat Patriot led the charge as the first 15 tractor trailertrucks took off carrying 600,000 pounds of food that will be delivered to foodbanks throughout New England and New York.

Spectators gathered to see them off and the East Providence High School pep band playedsome tunes during the second year of this big event.

"Nationally there are 22 million or more children on foodstamps and here in Rhode Island there is a significant population that is foodinsecure, and we are trying to help erase that problem," Job Lot owner Alan Pearlman said.

Rhode Island Major's Angel Taveras, Allan Fung and James Diossa were among the many on hand for a presentation on how the funds werecollected to provide the food at a lower cost than what the food banks paythemselves.
