Homeowners who live near Wapping road in Middletown, RI are being warned to test their drinking water if it comes from a well.

The Rhode Island department of health says that samples from wells in the area show a high level of nitrates which can be dangerous for infants under 6-months.

The department of health released the following information in a press release. "HEALTH has no evidence to believe that other wells in this area have amounts of nitrate at this level. Nitrate levels change seasonally, and can be related to septic systems, lawn and agricultural fertilizer use, and runoff. This action comes out of an abundance of caution from HEALTH, as we remind all Rhode Island residents who use wells to get them tested annually."
