A Providence police officer attacked by a pit bull while trying to chase down a known gang member.

Police spotted 30 year old Kevin Poulin walking near Pine and Lockwood Street early Sunday morning.

Police say he grabbed for something at his waist before running into a nearby house.

They gave chase and as they tried to restrain him on the second floor a woman in a third floor apartment let loose three pit bulls, that's when Poulin ordered them to attack.

One of the pit bulls did and the officer had to shoot it.

Police arrested Poulin and found 19 bags of what appeared to be marijuana on him.
