Exeter man facing drug, firearm charges

An Exeter man is facing criminal charges after a well-being check on his children led to the discovery of marijuana plants, cocaine, and firearms.

41-year-old Todd Byers was arrested on Saturday night after the Department of Child Youth and Families requested that the RI State Police assist them on a well-being check of Byers two children, ages four and six.

Upon arrival State Police observed marijuana on the kitchen counter and smelled marijuana emanating throughout the home.

Byers presented the troopers with an expired Medical Marijuana Care Giver card and a Medical Marijuana Patient Card, however, police say Byers was in excess of the maximum allowance of 2.5 ounces.

A further search of the home uncovered 14 mature marijuana plants, nine immature plants, and 20 seedlings. Along with six grams of cocaine, two AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, a double barrel shotgun, A SKS blot action rifle, digital scales, and $3657.

Byers is expected to be arraigned on drug and firearm charges Monday morning.
