Mayor Allan Fung updated the Cranston City Council on the ticket scandal investigation during a special council meeting Monday night.  The update was held during executive session, which means the details are sealed from the public.

"I held an executive session just to update the city council about what was going on.  The state police had concluded the investigation resulting from the ticket allegations and also just a brief where we are in the process with the top to bottom review," said Fung.

It comes more than a week after Mayor Fung recommended the termination of Captain Stephen Antonucci for his role in a ticket scandal in the city back in November. Antonucci has currently been suspended from the Cranston Police Department as part of the investigation.

Antonucci, who is the president of the Cranston Police Union, is facing several administrative violations.

The mayor asked for the investigation in January after councilmen Paul Archetto and Steven Stycos brought the issue to the attention of the Cranston City Council in December saying the day after they voted against the police contracts in November their wards were blanketed with 128 parking tickets.

"It seems like Captain Antonucci is taking the entire fall.  I would also like to know who else was on duty that evening.  Any other command rank status, who helped follow those order," said City Councilor Paul Archetto.

Captain Antonucci is on paid administrative leave pending a termination hearing.

While the ticket scandal investigation is over, the state police are still doing an over all assessment of the police department.  No word on when that will be complete.
