Providence Mayor Angel Taveras confirms that the city received a federal subpoena for documents and information related to the investigation of former House Speaker Gordon Fox.

The mayor says he cannot comment on the what specific department was subpoenaed but it is widely known that investigators are interested in work Fox did as a private attorney for the Providence Economic Development Partnership.

Mayor Taveras said if more subpoenas or requests are made the city will fully cooperate.

"When the time is appropriate we will be able to say more but we want to be very respectful to the subpoena and the process that's ongoing," said Taveras.

Fox resigned as Speaker of the House last month after federal investigators executed a search warrant on his State House office and home.

Federal investigators have also visited the Rhode Island Board of Elections as part of the investigation into Fox.
